Since becoming obsessed with wine in the late 1980's in his native Scotland, Andy has worked with a number of leading producers including Littorai, Paul Hobbs, Larkmead, and, since 1999, has been winemaker with the highly acclaimed DuMOL Winery in California's Russian River Valley. Andy particularly enjoys the diversity of soils, grape varietals, and clones at Larkmead and DuMOL, enabling him to craft stylish, complex wines reflective of their terroir.
Andy has a deft hand with pinot noir and chardonnay, and brings a certain pinot sensitivity to his syrah and cabernet sauvignon winemaking as well. Esteemed wine critic Robert Parker has this to say about Andy Smith and DuMOL:
